ABOUT

Our beautiful library houses award-winners, prominent award nominees, texts related to curriculum, as well as popular series books, graphic novels, seasonal books, social learning, and more!  The majority of our books are in English but we are expanding the Spanish section and adding more languages as well!

Students visit our library once each week with their classroom teacher to check out or renew books.  Teachers are also able to check out books for their class or professional development!

"The name Monarch was chosen because of its familiarity to K-3 children and to symbolize the growth, change and freedom that becoming a reader brings. The Monarch is designed to encourage children to read critically and become familiar with children's books, authors and illustrators. The program is open to all K-3 age children in Illinois."

BLUESTEM

2018 Bluestem Nominees

"Big Bluestem, the Illinois state prairie grass, symbolizes the entire Bluestem Award and the variety of titles on the Master List each year.  The deep roots of this dominant native grass of the tall grass prairie indicate the older titles with lasting appeal.  New yearly growth relates to the newer titles chosen.  Its changing colors are a reflection of the variety of literatures, and the three seed spikes represent the three grades of students for whom the program is intended: 3rd, 4th, and 5th."
